When we talk about Scripting, we all have this problem of referring back to the core scripts that come with each system and do not always consider the user generated content.
#Rpg maker vx ace vs xp trial#
I tried the trial of Ace and gave up on it in less than a day. But Paint by Numbers not only becomes a crutch, it becomes a total handicap to the point that it severely limits levels of creativity. If you cant paint at all, you wont want to use a paint brush and may feel like the only way to create anything is to Paint by Numbers. In XP, you are given a paint brush and bunch of paints, but in Ace, it feels like I am trying to create the Mona Lisa using Lite Brite or an Etch a Sketch. To me, XP vs Ace in mapping is like being given a blank canvas. Larger characters also allows for more details in those characters. Really? In XP, sizes feel more proportional, but require control over Layers to make natural feeling enviornments. My dog is as big as a tree that is also the same size as a mountain. In XP, size relations between characters and enviornment is disproportionate. The squatty chibi / kaiser sprites drive me up the wall. Other problem is simply the artistic style of the default tilesets used in Ace. Problem is the lack of Layers takes away that control. I often look at screenshots made in XP and Ace and conclude that too many Ace maps look damn near exactly the same as any other maps made with the same tileset. The reason I do not care for the Ace mapping system is too much control is taken away from the artist. Also, how many know that if you draw while holding down the SHIFT KEY, you wont affect any Autotiles while drawing? So for the newbie mappers to either XP or Ace, how many even know that if you double click on an Autotile, you can override the system and manually select which tile you want. The MINIMUM fps I can get in XP are 20, but because there is a cap of 40, is not the same as having 20 FPS with a cap of 60Įdit: Oh, yeah, I forgot that, database in Ace is also superior lol Sure, XP FPS are capped at 40, but that's enough, it's still smooth. I don't know man, but I switched to XP for lag issues, and XP seems to run smooth as hell, while in VX Ace I constatly had ~20-30 FPS, which is not good. But I must say something, I think (I think.) that VX Ace is more likely to have fps drops than XP. Chaos-project GDunlimited, there you can find a great, greeeat number of scripts (specially in the first two). Btw, you will be shocked when you found the quantity of XP scripts, you just have to search well. 60 FPS, RGSS3, tons of scripts, also it's newer and most scripters nowadays just scrip for RGSS3. Oh and built-in fogs And natural 640x480 resolutionīut yes, VX Ace is technically better.

However, VX Ace still has to have A, B, C, D and E, and the size of each is strict, while XP doesn't have that limitations), 8 autotiles per tileset in database, 3 layers of mapping (the fourth one is just for events lol). Tilesets height can be very, very long (trust me, VERY long), infinite amount of tilesets (VX Ace implemented this, but VX didn't. Truth is, and will always be, that XP mapping is better than VX Ace mapping.

You can or cannot like XP mapping, but that's just a point of view.
